Questions?

These tend to be the most frequent questions. If your question is not answered here please feel free to contact me.

How do I arrange an appointment?

You can telephone me on 07954 996 360, leaving a brief message and contact number. I can also be contacted by email but it is useful to speak in person to discuss whether an initial meeting would be helpful. If we decide on this, I would usually agree an initial appointment with you to assess whether clinical psychology consultations and/or psychological therapy could be helpful to you at the present time. If we do decide that further sessions would be appropriate, we can agree a number of sessions.

Having worked for 19 years in the NHS across mental and physical health services I am now full time in private practice.  This allows for flexibility in my clinical practice and I will endeavour to offer an appointment within a week.

I have a limited number of early morning and evening appointments.

What if I need to cancel an appointment?

If you have to cancel an appointment then please contact me on 07954 996 360 and leave a message. If you leave at least 24 hours notice (excluding weekends) then I will not charge for the missed appointment.

What will the initial appointment involve?

The first appointment is designed to develop an initial psychological understanding of your situation and for us to consider whether and how we might approach a psychological treatment. Appointments are usually 50 minutes in length.

How many sessions will I have?

Typically between 6 and 25 sessions are agreed, but this can be longer or shorter depending on need and the goals agreed. Regularity is often either weekly or fortnightly, but this can be negotiable. At no point are you committed to fulfilling all agreed sessions if you should change your mind, however, it is often useful to talk this through and reach a mutual plan. Sometimes review appointments can be arranged at the end of a therapy contract to maximise and maintain progress gained.

What is the fee?

Details of fees can be given on request. Typically they are around £80-110 per hour for professional services.  This is sometimes negotiable to a lower rate if a longer-term psychotherapy approach is taken.  I have specialist provider recognition with a number of health insurance companies (e.g AXA, Bupa)and so the cost of your sessions may be covered in full or part by your insurance

Will it be confidential?

In general the content of sessions is confidential. Occasionally there can be exceptions to this, for example, if there is a risk of harm to yourself/ someone else or I am required to divulge information by a court of law. I would endeavour to discuss this eventuality with you first.
