My background

I qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2003 and have since worked in a variety of NHS roles both in mental health services and physical health settings. Until recently, I worked as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Medical Psychology Service alongside my private practice.

I place a great emphasis on reflective practice and compassion in all of my work; much of my post-qualification training has been with this in mind.  Whilst I take an expert approach, I also practise the philosophical position of ‘fellow traveller’ in that none of us are immune to struggle.  The relational-existential approach in which I spent a further six years training allows me to harness this therapeutically and theoretically which provides a highly specialised angle.

I have heard many struggles and many people in difficult positions over the years.  My grounding in NHS mental health has allowed for a good understanding of the healthcare system around this.  Working in specialist palliative care/ end of life care is my great passion and working clinically in this area quickly teaches you how to be able to listen and talk about anything at all.
